Samso Island of Denmark was not known by people essentially, which was a place for pirate in history. Since Denmark was named as Environment Protection Sample in 2000, however, people who are from all over the world broke the silence of this island. As the saying: “Seeing is believing”, I decided to experience the island myself, which is self-sufficiency in energy resource entirely.
Started from Copenhagen, it took 4 hours when I landed on this famous Samso Island by taking ferry Kalundborg. I smelled fragrance once I stepped on it. Only endless grasses trees met the eye, which grew profusely. It seems that the island is a primitive land without cultivation. The erected white windmills are the only modern symbol of Samso.
My friend who is Dane, he told me that all energy resources on this island are environment-friendly. They are all from the land without pollution, then back to this land. For circulating permanently, there is no white trash on the island. The inhabitants don\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'t use gas and natural gas basically. Communities use regenerated energy to roast in winter, such as solar energy, straw and wheat stalk. On island, I saw stalks of crops are condensed into brick-shaped fuel after reap. The ashes from burnt fuel is processed into fertilizer which will be used in land. The residue of vegetable seeds after refined into oil is recovered and processed into cake-piece which is a good feed for livestocks. All in all, all things which you could imagine can be recycled. Besides, there is also a regulation that inhabitants use purely natural products instead of fertilizer.
In front of each house on island, there are many beautiful roses, begonias and unknown plants. There are 21 villages in total. I went to one of the villages with only 25 families and visited a family of three. the host, Las, is a carpenter and his wife is a social worker. For next generation could have a good living environment, they had moved to this village from big city Copenhagen several years ago. They bought a big house with 240 square meters here.
Las told me that there were only over ten windmills on island, but the electric energy generated by which is enough except for living, a part of it is used for automobile and ship, the rest is used to support Denmark Mainland. Only has a population of 4,000 here, but all inhabitants have strong idea about environment protection. So I think when you come here please respect the law and nature, and enjoy yourself.
